Mariner Capital Advisors (MCA) is seeking a National Managing Director to build, execute, and lead strategy. The Managing Director will own the design and execution of MCA’s strategy, lead the team in execution and be the primary owner of all operational components for MCA, including building, implementing, and overseeing the systems, processes, workflows, and procedures.  Preferred candidate will be able to thrive in a dynamic, collaborative, and fast-paced environment.   

Responsibilities

  • Align MCA’s business goals with Mariner’s vision.   
  • Strategically implement improvements across the greater Mariner organization to enable scale and growth of our investment banking offering. 
  • Design a business strategy, oversee and manage its successful execution.  
  • Define target client market for investment banking services. 
  • Develop referral network with niche bankers to support broader needs of Mariner advisors and clients beyond boutique investment banking capabilities with client first mentality, ensuring MCA is an advisor centric offering. 
  • Build advisor education, roll out of offering and services. 
  • Manage MCA team interaction with 1000+ advisors across greater Mariner organization.  
  • Educate COIs and other third-party referral sources on MCA offerings and support to further strengthen greater Mariner relationships and grow MCA.  
  • Work with key stakeholders to develop a clear understanding of their business needs, define project goals, and ensure alignment with strategic objectives. 
  • Oversee strategic teams to analyze internal operations and identify areas of enhancement. 
  • Develop, motivate, and guide MCA teams through exceptional leadership and on-going mentoring as a cornerstone to the management team’s career development. 
  • Build relationships of trust across functions and organizations; collaborate effectively across teams to define strategy, goals and commitment to timelines and deliverables. 
  • Establish and execute disciplined reporting mechanisms to proactively keep leadership and the team informed of organizational progress. 
  • Develop actionable business initiatives that ensure alignment with short and long-term objectives developed in tandem with executive leadership. 
  • Work with leadership team to develop the MCA’s annual planning process to establish annual goals with key measurements delivered quarterly to assess success and reporting metrics. 
  • Supervise all deals at MCA including those requiring brokerage licensing and FINRA oversight.  
  • Work collaboratively with back-office teams across the Mariner organization to develop policies and procedures, including but not limited to acting as supervisory principal at affiliated BD over M&A function at Mariner.  

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 7 years of M&A Investment banking experience 
  • Series 79, 24
  • Working knowledge of deal structuring and closing principals  
  • Experience with valuation, modeling and financial forecasting

  • Ability to partner with the principal and executive team to build a highly inclusive culture ensuring team members thrive and organizational outcomes are met. 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-based environment with minimal supervision. 
  • Knowledge of market trends. 
  • Knowledge of securities regulations and M&A. 
  • Ability to work with tight deadlines.

Our compensation reflects the cost of talent across multiple US geographic markets. The base pay for this position across all US geographic markets ranges from $ 150,000/year to $250,000/year. Pay is based on a number of factors including geographic location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Eligibility to participate in an incentive program is subject to the rules governing the program, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance. Roles may also be eligible for additional compensation and/or benefits.
